Golf Croquet requires fewer different strokes than Association Croquet. At Dulwich we now teach this to beginners for that reason, but some players (and clubs) thereby regard it as suitable only for preparation for Association Croquet. Nevertheless, to see Golf Croquet played at international level shows the error of their ways. The CA, since major changes to the laws in 2004 -5, has begun to treat Golf Croquet as an equal partner.
The court layout and equipment are the same for both games. The difference is that in Golf Croquet there are no continuation strokes and thus no croquet stroke. The first side to score a hoop gains the point and the next hoop is then contested. All players stay on the lawn and this makes the game an attractive social activity.
However, there are levels of skill and tactical appreciation to be found here which elude many players. One or two Dulwich players are high in the national and international rankings.
For further details see the Beginners section here and the Golf Croquet section of the Croquet Association site.
